Get away with chocolate

If you haven’t picked it up by now, chocolate can do much more than just tickle your tastebuds. Happiness by this sweet can come in many ways and people from all over the world have proven this. A true chocoholic looking for a relaxing getaway can now go to a spa for treatments involving their favorite treat.

Hershey, Penn What better place to start our calmed-by-cocoa journey than in the birthplace of America’s favorite chocolate brand? The spa at the Hotel Hershey resort is known as “The Chocolate Spa,” where guests are given specialty treatments involving chocolate. These include “chocolate sugar scrubs,” “chocolate fondue wraps,” a “cocoa massage” and a pedicure entitled Sweet Feet which consists of sugar exfoliation and a nourishing chocolate foot massage. Personally, I want most to try the Whipped Cocoa Bath, which is described as a “foaming chocolate milk bath for a soothing and softening signature Hershey experience.” Sounds epic.

Saint Lucia Right on a Caribbean chocolate plantation sits Rabot Estate, a boutique hotel and spa. The cacao harvested on location is then revamped into delicious creations that guests can consume as bonbons or indulge in through facials and detox body wraps. Guests are encouraged to engage in the cacao harvesting as well in their Tree-to-Bar Experience. According to the website, “The tour includes all the fascinating stages in-between — from the cocoa seedling nursery, fermenting room and sun-drying station to grinding, mixing and lots of tasting!” This Caribbean getaway treats guests with a full chocolate adventure, from relaxing to learning to creating.

Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica The Pure Jungle Spa offers a treatment entitled “Ultimate Total Body Chocolate Decadence.” If that doesn’t sound over-the-top irresistible I don’t know what does. A coarse chocolate paste hand-ground and fire-roasted from local organic cacao beans is used as a body scrub and moisturizer. The recipient relaxes into the smell and texture of chocolate, a complete indulgence of the senses.

These places know they are special. All three spas are for adult guests only and the treatments range from $45 – $205. These vacation spots are for hard-core chocoholics only; those with only a mild sweet-tooth may want to look elsewhere. Comment below which spa treatment you would be willing to try.
